Consultation has played an important part in developing detailed plans for the site. This process will continue to guide future stages of planning. Frasers Property has worked and met with local residents, neighbours and stakeholders to better understand their interest in and concern for the site. Community Ideas for the Main Park After being closed to the public for more than 150 years, planning has begun on a new community park at Frasers Broadway, the old Kent Brewery site. On 27 September 2008, Frasers held a community discussion to share our initial design ideas and hear about how people want to use the park. The park is being designed by renowned international landscape architects Jeppe Aagaard Andersen (Denmark) and Mike Horne (Australia), who designed the open space for the Sydney Olympic site and recently completed the park at the former Royal Hospital for Women site in Paddington. Both the designers were present at the workshop and worked with community members to determine preferred uses and design features for the park. Feedback from the community emphasised the need for:
Dr Stanley Quek was very pleased to receive the community feedback about the park. “This will be your space and we want it to be a place which you want to use. This is part of our ongoing commitment to the existing and future community,” he said. Like the rest of Frasers Broadway, the park will incorporate a number of sustainability innovations. This includes an underground water detention tank, which will help the precinct to achieve its target of servicing all non-potable water needs – including irrigation, toilets, laundry and hot water – through a combination of on-site rainwater capture and waste water recycling. Frasers is planning to lodge a planning application in the next few weeks. Dr Quek said that his team were eager to begin work on the park. “Frasers is looking forward to working with the City of Sydney and local community to deliver the best possible outcome.” Main Park Consultation story boards Community Information Session On Wednesday 9 July 2008 there was a community information session at the Fosters Brewery Office. The purpose of the event was to provide information to the community about the changes made to the original Concept Plan and to give the community an opportunity to meet and ask questions of senior project management and design team members. The information provided included storyboards, a presentation by senior project management and design team and a question and answer session. The information session was well attended with close to 200 local residents and other stakeholders present at the event. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend. The team greatly appreciates the community’s continued interest and contributions to the design process. We encourage you to write a submission to the Department of Planning regarding the modified Concept Plan for Frasers Broadway once it is placed on exhibition. Carlene’s primary role is to work with local neighbours and residents, responding as quickly as possible to help reduce potential impacts of the work on the site.
