Project update, 8 April 2008

Frasers Property and their Australian and international architecture team briefed the NSW Minister for Planning and media on the key features of the project, including the ground-breaking approach to sustainability.  Frasers intends to lodge a concept plan modification with the Department of Planning this month.  The following links will take you to our Information Pack

Martin van der Wal’s poetic photo essay celebrates the industrial heritage of the old Kent Brewery site

March 2008

The scale and significance of the old Kent Brewery site requires sensitivity to both the future of Sydney and the character of the past. The first of many cultural projects to be undertaken at this site was commissioned in late 2007 when Frasers invited acclaimed architectural photographer, Martin van der Wal, to create a visual history of the site, its historic buildings and industrial ephemera.

Frasers asked for ‘a visual poem’ of the site, giving Martin van der Wal free access to the entire 5.8 hectare site, and Martin’s final collection of over 50 images has delivered that and much more. This captivating and evocative collection captures the quiet pause between the end of the brewing era and the commencement of building works. Martin’s moody, thought-provoking and richly textured photographs will be displayed in future buildings and be a resource for artists and historians as Frasers’ extensive cultural and public arts programme takes shape.

Demolition commenced

April 2008

On Tuesday 18 March, Frasers Property received approval from the Department of Planning to commence demolition works on the Frasers Broadway site. As part of this approval, Frasers must adhere to a number of conditions including work times and staging, truck movements and access, and waste management.

Since December 2007, Frasers has had a dedicated community relations officer, Graeme Soward, on the ground to provide a one-stop information and access point for residents. This role will continue throughout demolition. Residents can contact Graeme regarding site activities on 1800 282 909 and at community@frasersgreencliff.com.

Our demolition works constitute one of the biggest recycling projects undertaken in the world. We are committed to targeting 90% of building waste by weight recycling. This includes 100% recycling of steel, iron and timber.

Local residents can keep informed of our progress on site activities and recycling through site notice boards which will be erected at prominent places on site, our email bulletins and on this website.

This is a significant and exciting stage in the evolution of the Frasers Broadway precinct.

Project Update, 30 October 2007

On 16 October 2007, Frasers Property submitted a project application to the Department of Planning for demolition of buildings approved for removal under the concept plan and recycling of site materials. This application is currently being assessed by the department as part of an adequacy test. When the department chooses to place the document on public exhibition, it will be made available on this website. There will then be a 30 day period for public submissions on the application. Following the exhibition period, Frasers will respond to public submissions and the department will assess and make a final determination on the project application.

The preliminary environmental assessment, which supports the demolition application, is available on the Important Documents page of this website.

Project Update, 17 September 2007

Frasers Property will be formally submitting a project application to the NSW Department of Planning for demolition of those buildings approved for removal as part of the concept plan.

The project application for demolition will be submitted in October 2007. Before the project application is submitted, the Director General will be issuing to us the requirements that need to be addressed in the environmental assessment report that will be submitted with the application.

We are currently preparing a full program of the proposed sequencing of subsequent project applications and will make this information available on this website.
