Location
The Frasers Broadway site occupies nearly six hectares of Sydney’s southern CBD, bordered by Broadway and Abercrombie Streets in Chippendale. In this unique location, the site offers an outstanding opportunity for urban renewal which reflects the eclectic, historic and dynamic inner city character of Chippendale.
Close to three universities – University of Technology Sydney, University of Sydney and Notre Dame University, and virtually adjacent to Central Station, the site is highly accessible.
Haymarket, the historic trading centre of Australia, is just down the hill and all the attractions of city living are within easy reach.
The site was established as a brewery more than 150 years ago. The smell of breweries permeated Sydney until the 1970’s, with major sites in Redfern, Alexandria and Chippendale. The needs of a growing city, increasing conflicts of truck movements and traffic, combined with changes in land use led to the consolidation of these activities away from inner cities, leaving significant opportunities for redevelopment. Brewing activities have been progressively moved off-site in recent years, with Fosters retaining an administrative team on this site until 2008.
The approved concept plan for the site will guide the development of buildings, parks and roads. The consultation process for the next stage of the site’s renewal will occur within the parameters established within the existing approval. More detail on staging of the project can be found at project overview.
