Project Overview
Frasers Property recognises the importance of the Broadway site and the significant interest shown in its future development by both local residents and the broader Sydney community.
Frasers is currently gathering together a highly experienced team to work on delivering an outstanding development based on the approved concept plan. The project seeks to achieve excellence in design, sustainability and community engagement by:
- A rigorous and creative approach to detail design implemented in partnership with key stakeholders such as the City of Sydney, relevant government departments and community stakeholders.
- Development of a sustainability management system to guide all development on the site from the reuse of building materials through to environmentally sustainable design for energy, water, buildings and public domain. The Institute of Sustainable Futures (University of Technology Sydney) has been engaged to lead the sustainability component of the project.
- Recognition of the importance of establishing and maintaining communication and receiving input regarding the project from local residents, neighbours and stakeholders. This will occur through a variety of mechanisms including regular newsletter updates, meetings, presentations and involvement in workshops prior to the development of the detailed design.
Frasers purchased the site from Fosters in June 2007, however some of the site will continue to be used by Fosters until July 2008. Fosters is currently removing equipment for transfer to their new facilities. This work by Fosters will complete by December 2007.
There are a number of steps leading up to construction on the site.
The site will be developed in stages. This means that at some times there will be both demolition and construction occurring simultaneously on the site.
Anticipated impacts of construction works will include noise, dust and traffic impacts. Frasers are committed to working closely with and respecting nearby neighbours, businesses and activities and will endeavour to manage and mitigate impacts as much as possible. More detailed consultation will occur with those potentially affected by onsite activity as the construction schedule becomes clear.
Sydney Water has been occupying a compound off Abercrombie Street to support a water main renewal program in the surrounding streets of Chippendale. This work is not related to the Frasers Broadway site.
